WHO ARE WE?

Since 1945, The Philadelphia Press Association has served the Delaware Valley area. We are an organization of the editorial staffs of the newspapers, wire services, radio stations and televisions of the Delaware Valley.

PPA is an outgrowth of the Reporters Association formed by employees of the Evening Ledger, which later ceased publication.

Under the previous identity, the goal was largely social, but when the Philadelphia Press Association was chartered under the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, its purpose and objectives were enlarged to include the preservation of journalistic standards and ethics to foster a higher degree of public confidence and respect for the newsgathering profession. It also established an emergency fund to aid its members in time of need.

Since 1945, we have encouraged excellence among news practitioners by annually recognizing outstanding examples of individual and group effort.

Besides its annual journalism awards contest, The Philadelphia Press Association also sponsors scholarships for communications majors.

Our membership is open to current members and retirees of the working press. Whether you are print or electronic, you are invited to be a part of The Philadelphia Press Association.
