On Friday, June 28, 2002 at the Bala Golf Club in the Wynnefield section of Philadelphia, the Philadelphia Press Association held its annual press awards. The South Philadelphia Review won several awards which included First Place in Enterprise Reporting in our Weekly Division. Sean M. Riley was responsible for the piece "Dealing with Drugs."
The paper also won the First Place category of Overall Weekly Coverage. Jules Vuotto of their staff won First Place in Spot News Photography, Weekly Division and also First Place in Sports Photography, Weekly Division. Accepting all the awards for the South Philadelphia Review was Sandra Pilla, the weekly newspaper's Editor.
